We offer reliable Unistik safety lancets, available in two needle gauges to suit different sampling needs.
The 21G lancet provides a slightly thicker needle that produces a stable blood drop and is often preferred when a consistent sample is required. The 23G lancet is slightly thinner and can be a good option for individuals who experience excessive bleeding when using a 21G needle.
Both gauges are available with two different firing mechanisms:
-
Side-Fire – activated with a side button, offering greater control during sampling.
-
Push-to-Fire – activated by pressing the device against the skin, allowing faster and simpler sampling.
Each pack contains 100 sterile, single-use lancets.
Tips & Best Practices
Tips & Best Practices
Best practices for accurate capillary blood sampling
Proper sampling technique helps ensure reliable measurements.
- Clean the sampling area
Wash the finger with water, not alcohol. Alcohol can interfere with some measurements and may lead to inaccurate results. Make sure any dirt, sweat, or residue is removed.
- Dry the finger
Ensure the finger is completely dry before sampling.
- Puncture the skin
Use a sterile lancet to perform the finger prick on the side of the fingertip.
- Remove the first drop
Wipe away the first drop of blood using a clean, dry tissue. This helps remove tissue fluid that may affect the measurement.
- Collect the sample
Use the second or third drop of blood for the measurement to improve accuracy.
Following these steps helps reduce the risk of contamination, diluted samples, and inaccurate readings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 21G and 23G lancets?
What is the difference between the 21G and 23G lancets?
The difference is the needle thickness and the amount of blood produced.
21G lancet
Our preferred version. A thicker needle that produces a larger blood drop and easier drop to sample from
23G lancet
A slightly thinner needle that produces a moderate blood sample, for athletes that experience excessive bleeding with the 21G. This is a good alternative.
Summary:
- 21G: thicker needle, larger blood drop
- 23G: thinner needle, moderate blood drop
What is the difference between the Side-Fire and Push-to-Fire versions?
What is the difference between the Side-Fire and Push-to-Fire versions?
The difference is the activation mechanism used to trigger the lancet.
Side-Fire
Activated using a button on the side of the device. This gives the user more control over when the lancet fires and how much pressure is applied.
Push-to-Fire
Activated by pressing the device directly against the skin. This creates a simple one-step activation and is often preferred when speed and ease of use are important.
Summary:
Side-Fire provides more control, while Push-to-Fire offers faster and simpler operation.
