When we set out to find a lactate meter, we had three key requirements: accuracy, reliability, and cost.
The Lactate Plus meets all three. It is an accurate handheld lactate meter that in our experience, has proven to be the most reliable option available.
With the Professional Kit, you get everything needed to start testing immediately. It includes a durable hard case that protects the analyzer during travel and makes it easy to organize and run lactate testing sessions in the field.
Tips & Best Practices
Tips & Best Practices
Accurate lactate testing depends on proper execution. Taking the time to perform each measurement correctly will greatly improve the reliability of your data.
Focus on correct sampling
Always follow a consistent sampling procedure. Clean the sampling area, use a fresh lancet, and make sure the blood sample is sufficient before applying it to the strip. Careful execution is the key to obtaining reliable readings.
Understand the steady state principle
When using lactate testing to control training intensity, we are often looking for steady state. The relationship between lactate and power or velocity can vary significantly from day to day and between environments—for example from altitude to sea level or from cold to hot conditions.
Because of this variability, identifying the highest workload where lactate remains stable—often referred to as Maximum Lactate Steady State (MLSS)—is a powerful way to define and control your anaerobic threshold.
Combine lactate with perceived effort
Use lactate measurements together with your subjective Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE). Over time, lactate testing helps you become more aware of how specific physiological responses correspond to how the effort feels.
By combining objective lactate data with RPE and performance metrics such as power or pace, you can better control training intensity and monitor how your body responds to different training conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Lactate Plus require calibration?
Does the Lactate Plus require calibration?
No calibration is needed.
The Lactate Plus comes readily calibrated from the factory. The strips are also ready to use straight from the box. No calibration, ID number or any other steps necessary.
Simply plug-and-play.
How should I store the test strips?
How should I store the test strips?
Nothing complicated.
Simply store the test strips at room temperature.
Keep the lid closed as much as possible during testing.
Do I need alchohol wipes to clean?
Do I need alchohol wipes to clean?
No, definitely not.
Use water to clean the skin surface before puncturing. Then remove the first drop of blod with a dry tissue. Then sample.
Alchohol wipes will cause errors in the measurements.
What do I need to consider when I choose Lancets?
What do I need to consider when I choose Lancets?
It is important that the depth and width of the needle is correct.
The depth increases with lower G-number. Hence 21G is the perfect depth and width to collect samples that are reliable.
The difference between Touch and Extra is simply the firing mechanism. Touch is a push-to-fire and Extra has a side-fire release.
